A Glencoe Garden That Shines After Dark
Set along a busy street in the heart of Glencoe, this landscape was thoughtfully designed to feel like a private retreat—an intimate, slow-paced garden that offers a sense of calm the moment you step inside. While the surroundings buzz with daily activity, the space itself feels quietly removed, grounded in natural materials and intentional design.
Natural stone walls play a key role in creating this sense of enclosure. They soften the noise of the street, define the garden rooms, and establish a feeling of permanence and tranquility. From the start, the goal was clear: to design a garden that feels serene, welcoming, and deeply personal—an outdoor escape that supports rest and reflection.
Once the landscape design fully captured the client’s vision, we partnered with the talented team at Night Light to extend the experience into the evening hours. From the earliest conversations, our designers worked collaboratively to align on the client’s goals, desired atmosphere, and budget. The result was a lighting plan that felt seamless—never overpowering the garden, but quietly enhancing it.
As daylight fades, the garden transforms. Thoughtfully placed lighting highlights stone textures, plant forms, and pathways, creating depth and warmth after dark. The glow feels inviting rather than dramatic, allowing the space to be enjoyed from indoors throughout all four seasons. Whether viewed through a window on a winter evening or experienced firsthand during a summer gathering, the garden remains a constant source of beauty.
Beyond aesthetics, the lighting also brings a sense of comfort and security, making the garden welcoming for evening entertaining or peaceful moments of relaxation. It’s a reminder that a well-designed landscape doesn’t end at sunset—it evolves.
This Glencoe garden is a true collaboration of design and light, proving that when landscape and lighting work in harmony, outdoor spaces can shine at any hour.
